National Partnerships

Arts Presenters works with a number of organizations and coalitions to conduct research and surveying of the performing arts field, staying up-to-date on the needs and challenges of the performing arts. In addition, we contribute to a number of projects and initiatives that help provide additional resources for our members and to the field.

Jacob's Pillow - Applications Closed April 10, 2008

Are you or a member of your staff making dance programming decisions and feeling ready to take the next step in dance presenting?

Apply today to attend the annual National Dance Presenters Leadership Forum, which gathers together presenters from communities across the country to improve their curatorial and practical command of dance presenting.

Participants immerse themselves in dance at Jacob’s Pillow during a four-day Forum, discussing the art of dance; examining curatorial issues, field-wide issues and participants’ own communities; and connecting with colleagues. Participants also attend performances at the international Festival, tour the Pillow’s Archives and National Historic Landmark grounds, observe dance classes, and enjoy the incomparable environment of the Pillow.

The Forum is geared to presenters who are neither “beginners” nor “veterans.” Participants must have five years of experience presenting dance exclusively or presenting dance within a multi-disciplinary context. Participants must be the staff person responsible for dance programming decisions and possess a strong commitment to presenting dance within their institutions.

The Forum begins Wednesday, August 13 at 4pm and ends Saturday, August 16 at 4pm.

To Apply: Please Click Here for applications via email to Ginger Menard at gmenard@jacobspillow.org.

Notification will be sent by May 10, 2008. Approximately 15 presenters from across the country will be selected to participate. Presenters must arrange and pay for their transportation. Housing, meals, and performance tickets will be provided

National Arts Strategies

Arts Presenters and National Arts Strategies (NAS) share a commitment to leadership and professional development for the arts and culture industry. That's why Arts Presenters has become a promotional partner with NAS. NAS uses executive education to develop leadership programs for arts and culture audiences across the country, expanding the range of education programming that we can make available to our members. Through this partnership, Arts Presenters will promote NAS seminars presented as part of the NAS Business of Arts and Culture program.

The Business of Arts and Culture is a new, national executive education program for arts and culture leaders. This unique investment in the leaders of cultural organizations combines executive seminars, applied learning projects, and financial scholarships for participants across the country. The program draws on top professors from schools including Harvard Business School, Stanford Graduate School of Business, and MIT. These instructors use highly interactive classroom experiences to address the specific issues of mid- and large-sized arts and cultural organizations. Tuition is highly subsidized and travel assistance is available to make it affordable for teams to participate. You can learn more and register for seminars in The Business of Arts and Culture at www.artstrategies.org/section/programs/business_of_arts_and_culture.php.

MUSICVISTA.ORG

Using the combined strength of eight of the nation's leading music service organizations, www.Musicvista.org has been launched to bring into one website all of the tools necessary to get the most up-to-date information on concerts, news, legislative advocacy, tools and resources.

Musicvista.org is designed to promote the vitality and appreciation of music as an essential element of American culture, and to provide leadership and support to those who create, perform, produce, and present it to the public.

Arts Presenters joins the American Composers Forum, American Music Center, American Symphony Orchestra League, Chamber Music America, Chorus America, Meet The Composer and OPERA America.

Performing Arts Research Coalition

The Performing Arts Research Coalition (PARC) brings together five major national service organizations in the performing arts – the American Symphony Orchestra League, the Association of Performing Arts Presenters, Dance/USA, OPERA America and Theatre Communications Group – to improve and coordinate the ways performing arts organizations gather information on their sector.

With help from the Urban Institute, the project is collecting data in 10 pilot communities: Alaska, Cincinnati, Denver, Pittsburgh, Seattle, Austin, Boston, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Sarasota and Washington, D.C. Information is being gathered on administrative expenditures and revenues of performing arts organizations, the value of the performing arts as experienced by both attendees and non-attendees of arts events and audience and subscriber satisfaction with performances and related activities.

The effort is being coordinated by OPERA America and is supported by a three-year, $2.7 million grant from The Pew Charitable Trusts.

Jazz Appreciation Month

The concept is simple: designate one month for an annual public spotlight on jazz. Jazz Appreciation Month (or JAM) is intended to draw the public's attention to the glories of jazz as both a historical and a living treasure. The idea is to encourage musicians, concert halls, schools, colleges, museums, libraries, and public broadcasters to offer special programs on jazz every April. Gateway to the Americas

A collaborative effort between Arts Presenters, Cultural Contact (the U.S.–Mexico Fund for Culture in Mexico City) and a growing group of international partners, the Gateway to the Americas initiative creates new opportunities for integrating Mexico into the process of promoting and expanding performing arts in the international arena. The 2nd Performing Arts Encounter of Mexico: Gateway to the Americas will take place from June 3-6, 2004, in Mexico City.
