Arts Presenters awarded between 8 one to two-year project grants, ranging from $50,000-$200,000 each in 2007 to college and university presenters for a variety of campus-based activities that more fully integrate the work of presenters into the life of the academy and the community and for campus presenters working collectively with other college or university partners to maximize resources and capacities in the performing arts.
Campus-based activities may include a wide array of activities, including presenting (performance presentations, residencies, commissions, etc), research, producing, K-12 arts education or lifelong learning as well as collaborations on and off campus and expenses related to implementing the proposed project.
Projects will take place between April 1, 2007 and May 31, 2009.
Program Goals
The Innovations Grant Program encourages college and university presenters, their campuses and partners to propose projects that go beyond conventional practice and perspectives, featuring innovative or experimental approaches, connecting with arts and non-arts constituencies, and stimulating discussion and debate. Goals are to:
- Strengthen the growing interest in the academy and the arts with a set of innovative performing arts projects on American campuses that will exhibit the foundational importance of the arts to the educational, service and scholarly missions of the academy.
- Identify and support 6 to 12 exemplary programs that can provide examples, lessons and models for action by presenters and their colleagues on a variety of campuses.
- Document and disseminate a set of case studies as part of the Creative Campus initiative that will be made broadly available to higher education institutions.
